Definition:
Super typhoons are very strong tropical cyclones. While the difference between a hurricane and typhoon are simply a matter of location, a super typhoon is best compared to a major hurricane of a Category 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. In other words, a super typhoon is simply a very strong typhoon.
Alternate Spellings: supertyphoons (sometimes seen without a space between the words, but this is incorrect)
Examples:
Strong typhoons such as Parma, Melor, and Lupit are sometimes referred to as super typhoons.
