The 2nd Annual Storm Chaser Car Show

Friday October 19, 2007
UPDATE! The images from the 2007 National Weather Festival are now available! Go directly to the photo gallery.

Have you ever wondered what it would take to be a storm chaser? Last year, I reported on the 1st annual Storm Chaser Car Show at the National Weather Festival. (See video highlights from the 2006 festival.) This event in Oklahoma is set for this coming weekend.

Details: Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 9 am–1 pm

at the National Weather Center 120 David L. Boren Blvd.

Norman, Oklahoma (Get the map of the exact location)

After reporting on the event last year, I got a wonderful email from one of the winners in the event. His name is Chris Caldwell and he is a professional storm chaser. He works for KOCO TV 5 in Oklahoma and is a member of the F.A.S.T. Team (First Alert Storm Team). I had the pleasure of completing an interview with him as he prepares his car for this year's show. In the interview, Chris explains how to become a storm chaser. (See his video highlights of how to build a chase vehicle.) He even talks about "chase-cations" (as they are termed in the business) or tornado chase vacations where you can be a tourist and pay to chase a storm! See some video of the best tornado clips ever.

If you or anyone you know attends this festival, I would love some pictures. I will soon be posting more images. Please email me if you attend and let me know what you thought about the show! In the mean time, read the interview with Chris Caldwell - the Professional Storm Chaser. (That is him in the picture to the right!)
