1950s Weather Forecast Video

Wednesday October 1, 2008
The history of weather forecasting is both old and new. From the ancient days of the sun Gods and prayers for rain in Africa to modern weather satellites, weather observations have occurred throughout human history. Even weather folklore is a testament to early attempts at forecasting.

But these are modern times, and my expectations in a weather forecast are high. I know I turn on the TV and expect to see a 5 to 10 day forecast for my home viewing area. I want little happy suns and live animations of clouds. I expect to see up-to-the-minute discussions of approaching frontal systems from a team of meteorologists. Heck, I even want to see the live camera on the weather for my morning commute. I need these daily fixes.

Considering my weather demands, I suppose watching a 1950s weather forecast would have been a bit disappointing. Black and white graphics, few female forecasters, sketchy details on storms, and accuracy??? Well, let's just say weather accuracy is improved, but still tough to go beyond 10 days.
