Send Your Name Around the Earth and Into Space

Sunday September 28, 2008
My name floating around in cyberspace on About.com is one thing, but I have to admit I have sent my name elsewhere...As in real space.

I think you can find the name Rachelle Oblack in several locations in space including on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, on the Kepler Mission to find Earth-like planets, on the Phoenix Mission to Mars, and on the Deep Impact Mission where my name was vaporized. All in all, it is just fun. There are usually honorary certificates to print, and the activity is great for students, teachers, and your kids.

Now, you can send YOUR name into an orbit around Earth on NASA's Glory Satellite. Glory is the first mission dedicated to understanding the effects of particles in the atmosphere and the sun's variability on our climate. Your name will be recorded on a microchip and flown on the Glory satellite. The deadline for name submission is November 1, 2008. More information on the Glory Mission and how to submit your name.
