Hurricane Ike Photos

Friday September 19, 2008
Some photos need few words in the caption to understand their impact. This link of damage photos from Hurricane Ike were some of the best images I have seen. The article is called 'The Short But Eventful Life of Ike' and is a series of 28 photos from the Boston Globe.

(1) Willow says:

I have a close online friend (Lori) who lives near Galveston. They ended up evacuating and her and her family went to Lori’s father’s house, until the storm passed. When Lori and her husband went back to see their house, they
were horrified to see that they lost just about everything – even the family van! I feel so bad for her that I’m going to send her a few gift cards, so she can buy what she
wants, instead of sending clothes that may not fit, food they may not eat, etc. With a gift card, Lori can buy exactly what is needed.

Another thing: Lori said that Hurrican Ike is a lot like Katrina, not in the way of damage, but b/c of the way FEMA is responding, (or lack of response, should I say). Lori said there are cover-ups going on, finger pointing,
and it’s just taking forever to get some help down where she is!

i recently heard there were some mixed reviews about the response time. I did not know anyone in the immediate area, so I do not have any direct quotes from victims, but several news outlets are reporting many people are unhappy with the response of FEMA.
I think gift cards are a great idea by the way. Easy to mail and your friend can get whatever she needs. I have never suffered that kind of loss. I cannot imagine how devastating it must be for them.
