Michael Calhoun grew up in New York, and currently lives and teachers middle school science at the Academy at the Lakes in Land O Lakes, Florida. He is also a freelance writer developing science and technology lessons, test assessment items, and K-12 curriculum materials for several commercial firms.Philosophy:
Mike thoroughly enjoys science and loves teaching to elementary and middle school students. As a teacher, it gives him an exhilarating feeling when he helps nurture a child's natural curiosity about science and technology. He believes that a middle grade teacher can have a tremendous impact on students because this is the time when students are deciding whether or not they really like science. If students get turned off to science during this time, they may never get interested again. His client base tends to be classroom teachers and home schooling parents looking for inexpensive science-teaching items. Mike inherited a small farm in Eastern North Carolina where he spends most of his summers learning the ins-and-outs of organic farming. As a resident of Florida he enjoys the warm, sunny weather, the beaches, and a passion for cross-county cycling.Education:
Mike holds a Bachelors degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics, a Masters degree in science education, specializing in curriculum development, and postgraduate work in classroom technology integration and e-learning lesson development.
