Tropical Air

Definition: Tropical air is a weather term used to describe air formed in regions where the temperature is warm. When used to describe an air mass, tropical air indicates the air is warm and originated in the lower latitudes.

There are two main types of tropical air. Continental tropical (cT) air forms in the lower latitudes over landmasses in subtropical zones. The air is typically dry. The temperature ranges from warm to hot.

Maritime tropical (mT) air forms over tropical and subtropical oceans. The air is moist and ranges from warm to hot in temperature.
