Tropical Storm Fay began her path in the open Atlantic Ocean and later caused flooding and deaths in Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Later, the storm caused the evacuation of the Florida Keys as residents rushed to move out of the direct path of Fay. Initially Tropical Storm Fay was predicted to move into the Gulf of Mexico and become a full-scale hurricane. Although the storm was predicted to reach a Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the messy structure and lack of a well-defined hurricane eye made the storm rather erratic. The storm would later hit Florida in one way or another at least 4 times before finally dissipating. 12 deaths have been blamed on the storm in the United States and President Bush declared the area an official disaster zone. Tropical Storm Fay was the 6th named storm of the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
