The Georgia Floods, September 2009

From , former About.com Guide

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) called the flooding in Georgia Epic. The flooding has even broken 20 water gages in the region. Torrential rains have been to blame for the flooding as the flood stage of multiple rivers was reached.

According to the USGS, the Yellow River was measured between the 100-year and 200-year flood magnitude. Flows caused by the rain at Peachtree Creek in Atlanta were near the 10-year flood magnitude, but the backwater effects from the Chattahoochee River pushed water levels over the 500-year flood statistic.

Below are some of the records broken during the floods as reported by the National Weather Service Southern Region Headquarters. More information on the reason for the floods are explained in the article - Georgia Climatology and Flooding.
