M5 Clouds

Continual or Banded Altocumulus Cloud That Invade the Sky

From Rachelle Oblack, About.com

A thick covering of altocumulus clouds that begins to cover the entire sky are called M5 clouds.
Middle Type 5 CloudsNational Weather Service
Altocumulus which seem to move across the sky and thicken often occur in different layers. Sometimes the sky is covered completely with a continuous layer, while at other times, the area looks more like stripes of clouds covering larger portions of the sky. The spreading of these clouds may indicate impending bad weather. If you see the clouds moving across the sky, there is usually a frontal system moving in (but not always).
