Type L1 clouds are not associated with approaching storms and there is little vertical development in the clouds. If the sky is only dotted with these beauties, the dappled shadows they can make on the ground make the sky fun to watch. Kids will often sit and watch these clouds turn and form in the sky looking for imaginary images within their structures. Hazy areas will often develop into these smaller cumulus formations. The bases of the clouds are flattened with puffy, well defined tops. Fair weather cumulus, as they are known, make for a textbook quality image of the sky.
