Are you looking to increase your knowledge in meteorology? Then consider participating in the Project ATMOSPHERE program in the summer of 2010. Presented by the American Meteorological Society, this is one of the best workshops for teachers I have had the pleasure to be a part of. One of my favorite portions of the program was the training on how to use Datastreme information in the classroom. In addition, the program provided me with ideas for teaching weather and fun lesson plans on weather. I have used many of these lessons for 10 years. In fact, this is the place where I came up with my lessons on using buoys in the classroom with the Dial-a-Buoy program.
Start filling out your application now. When I was teaching full-time, I would always use January as my month to investigate summer teacher workshop opportunities. I would print the applications early, mark the dates of the workshop on my calendar, as well as the due dates for the application materials. As the teaching year continued, I was often able to answer a paragraph at a time. Sometimes, the students would spark a thought in me that I was able to translate into the application. If you have ever participated in a teacher workshop and know of other good opportunities, please feel free to share them in the comments section. Or, if you have any tips for writing a winning application, please share!
