Still Cleaning Up After Hurricane Ike

Sunday October 12, 2008
Shoreacres, Texas was hit hard by Hurricane Ike with nearly all of the 500 houses in this small town of 1500 sustaining water damage from Ike's storm surge. Hurricane-generated debris has to be compacted by a bulldozer. The debris will later be moved to a landfill. Even over a month later, the clean-up process is slow but FEMA is paying three quarters of the costs. Meanwhile, housing inspectors are assessing homes to determine the amount of financial assistance available to homeowners after Hurricane Ike swept through the Gulf Coast.
