Tropical Storm Marco and Hurricane Norbert

Wednesday October 8, 2008
Tropical Storm Marco dumped heavy rain over Mexico's Gulf Coast on Tuesday while packing near hurricane force winds of 65 mph. While there were no injuries reported, many coastal towns are experiencing flooding. MSNBC.com reports 3,000 people were evacuated from their homes . The National Hurricane Center reports that Marco has dissipated, but still poses a flash flood threat for portions of Central Mexico.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Norbert has strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Norbert is the second major hurricane of the Eastern North Pacific hurricane season. While Hurricane Norbert is expected cut a path towards Baja, California, increased wind shear in the next 48 hours will cause Norbert to weaken slightly. Both Hurricane Norbert and Tropical Storm Marco can be seen in the satellite image to the left.
