Wind Shear: Hurricane Maker and Breaker

A lack of wind shear in the formation of a hurricane can be as important as warm ocean waters in the development of strength within the storm. At the same time high wind shear can tear a hurricane apart and diminish the ability for higher category hurricanes to develop. In aviation, wind shear has caused hundreds of deaths in airplane crashes. So, what is wind shear?
