5 Reasons Not to Like Hurricane Ike
Monday September 8, 2008
- Ike is (of course) a hurricane. Like any hurricane, the fear of losing your home, business, and maybe even your life is enough reason to dislike Ike.
- Ike is headed from South of Cuba straight up into the Gulf of Mexico. While the storm was previously predicted to weaken, Ike is now expected to regain strength and intensify once it hits the warm Gulf waters. Low wind shear and warm ocean waters will assist the intensification.
- Hurricane Ike is a repeat offender in an already busy hurricane season. Ike either has or will shortly cause more deaths, evacuations, and destruction in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Turks and Caicos, and more locations throughout the Caribbean. (Just like Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna)
- Ike is getting unruly. With difficulty in predicting the drunken path Ike is taking, residents from the Florida Keys to Texas are keeping an eye on this storm and getting ready for a hurricane.
- Uncertainty in Ike's path in the 5-day cone shows a large portion of the Gulf Coast that could be impacted by Ike. As of 2 p.m. Monday September 8, 2008, Ike is going to bounce around Cuba hitting as many places as possible seemingly without much dissipation.
