Dead Bodies from the Monsoons in India Have Little Hope for Cremation

Where do you go when you need to bury your loved ones in massive monsoon floods in India? The answer may not be to a crematorium. In the Northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, 717 people have died as a result of the floods since June. In all of South Asia, over 1000 have been killed, some by the cheap construction of houses. Most of the burial grounds are under water in Uttar Pradesh. According to Reuters, just one crematorium remains open, and if that area floods, residents will have no choice but to burn their loved ones bodies along the side of the road.

Meanwhile in Chad, 10,000 residents have been evacuated from seasonal flooding. Reuters reports that torrential rains have destroyed crops, farmlands, and promoted the spread of disease. More than 200,000 have been displaced by the rains in West Africa so far...more
