Tropical Storm Edouard Downgraded, But Still a Slight Threat
Tropical Storm Edouard slammed into the upper coast of Texas today (08/05/08) with sustained winds of 60 mph causing some regional flooding and a small amount of damage. While the storm has been downgraded to a tropical depression, there is still a risk for flooding as 3 to 5 inches of rain are expected in Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana. Although the NASA Johnson Space Center closed on Monday at 12 pm in anticipation of the storm, the center was expected to open again on Wednesday. According to the National Hurricane Center, all tropical storm warnings have been canceled. While the center of the storm was located about 60 km from Houston, residents in central and eastern Texas may not be safe as the tropical storm may spawn tornadoes over the next day.
