Sacrificing animals for the sake of creating rain may not be common in the US, but in Southern Africa, animal sacrifices are part of ancient rain rituals. These rituals are time-honored traditions that call upon the ancestors to change weather patterns from droughts to plentiful with increased rainfall. (Part of the problem with droughts is an increased risk of weather-related famine in Africa.) Other tribal traditions include warding off hail and lightning with weapons.
