Let It Rain Relief

Sunday November 25, 2007
The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain.

I wonder if Henry Wadsworth Longfellow knew why it rained when he wrote this? While I may know the weather, I am not a quote master and I do not have any expertise in poetry, but I thought this quote was a nice introduction to the second in my series of rain lessons. While many of us frown at a forecast of rain (ruined sporting events, getting muddy on your way to the car, etc), it is one of the most important atmospheric events for feeding plant life and sustaining life. So, the next time you are waiting for a rain shower to pass, you can ponder the type of rain your area is receiving, and...well...let it rain!

In a previous post, I related the three basic types of rain. With the first weather lesson in the series on convectional rain, it is now time to complete a lesson on orographic rain (aka relief rain). Included is a pdf file for easy downloads of the material. Read more... If you find this weather lesson useful or would like to submit your own, visit the weather forum an leave your comments!
