The Undertow of Subtropical Storm Gabrielle

Saturday September 8, 2007
Although you do not have to cancel your beach vacation in North Carolina yet, a subtropical storm is heading toward the Atlantic coast. The storm contains a lot of disorganization and is not expected to be a large threat. By Monday, the storm will be over and after a bit of dumped rain, the area should be fine. The outer banks will see rain showers by Sunday morning. Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel even stated that the rain would be a welcome addition to the already dry area.

One major advisory does exist. Residents of the area are advised to be careful in the ocean water due to rip currents. Rip currents are considered very dangerous. Read more on rip currents (aka undertows) and water safety.
